Welcome to our Sioux Narrows, Ontario Fishing Home Page
Sioux Narrows is an awesome vacation destination. Located in between Nestor Falls and Kenora, you will definitely find some areas where you won’t see another boater. However, you will still see some boats and people in this area. It’s not nearly as popular as Kenora, but it does get fished quite a bit. The Sioux Narrows area is known for its very clear and deep water. You will find cooler water temperatures here than many of the other areas on Lake of the Woods. You will also most likely need to downsize your line or fish with fluorocarbon line for more success due to the water clarity. Anglers catch lake trout, muskie, northern pike, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, walleye, perch and crappie.
Primary Species of Fish
Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Northern Pike & Muskie
The Sioux Narrows area of Lake of the Woods is a very good fishing area. Anglers do well with smallmouth bass, northern pike, muskie and walleye. You may have to take a little bit of a boat ride to find the better walleye fishing, but it is worth it as the walleye fishing can be very good here. Big fish and good numbers of fish are possible here for smallmouth bass, northern pike and walleye.
Secondary Species of Fish
Largemouth Bass, Lake Trout, Perch & Crappie
Largemouth bass are definitely possible here in the bays with the vegetation, but they are still a secondary species of fish in this area. Some anglers report good catches of crappie and perch, but the time of year and how hard you fish for them will dictate whether or not you put some fish in the boat or score a big fat zero.
Fishing Tips
We have plenty of fishing tips in the following sections:
Fishing the Bays
Sioux Narrows has plenty of bays to fish and you can find a variety of fish in these areas. Whether it is rock or vegetation, you will find both and the bays are usually the go to spots for targeting northern pike, smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Panfish are found in the bays too. Some bays are large and will fish like smaller lakes while others will be small with just a few key spots to target in them depending on the time of year.
Fishing the Drop-offs
Sioux Narrows has so much deep water on Lake of the Woods that it won’t be hard to find a drop-off to fish. The key is finding the right drop-offs that are near some shallow water and some good cover such as weeds and rocks. Target smallmouth bass, walleye, pike and panfish on these drop-offs.
Fishing the Points
There are so many points to fish here that you can easily fish this pattern and you can fish a different point all day and catch many different types of fish. You can fish the points off the main land as well as the many islands in this area. Rocks will be everywhere and some points will have some weed growth too. Target the points that have some access to deep water and you’ll have more success. Smallmouth bass are king here, but you will definitely catch plenty of pike with some walleye mixed in too.
Fishing the Islands
There are so many islands to fish in the Sioux Narrows area. Whether it is rock, weeds, shallower water or deep water drop-offs, there will be plenty of islands here to fish. Smallmouth bass and pike will found on most of these islands and some of the deeper water will hold some walleye too.
Fishing the Reefs
If you want to fish the reefs, there are plenty of them to fish here as well. Smallmouth bass love the reefs and if you get out onto the main lake, anglers report good success for walleye here too. The reefs will hold smallmouth bass, walleye and pike from summer through fall.
Fishing the Rocks
There are so many rocks here that you’re going to end up fishing plenty of rocks. The smallmouth bass love the rocks, so plan on catching plenty of them if you target the rocky areas. Northern pike, walleye and panfish will be mixed in as well.
Fishing the Weeds
There are plenty of areas with vegetation in this part of Lake of the Woods and that’s why this is one of the better areas to target northern pike and even largemouth bass too. There are tons of northern pike here, so find the weeds and you’ll find pike. Largemouth bass are secondary, so you won’t always find these fish near the weeds, but if you can find some nice shallower areas with weeds, you have a chance to catch some nice largemouth bass too.
