Northern Pike

Northern pike are definitely a secondary species of fish on Saginaw Bay, but there are fishable numbers here and there are some nice sized fish in the 30 to 39 inch range available and 40 inch plus fish are possible.  Drifting live bait is probably the best way to find some of these giants, but you can cast and jig for them too.  Trolling isn’t a bad option either.  Many of the anglers that troll for walleye will catch some northern pike as well.  Early in the fishing season, anglers can definitely go out and target pike in some of the shallower areas throughout the bay, but once water temperatures warm up, the better quality pike will be found deeper.
