The St. Joseph River is a popular river to fish in northern Indiana and southern Michigan. In the Indiana portion of this river, anglers do well from a boat and from the bank. There are plenty of places available for shore anglers to access in Indiana, which gives anglers the opportunity to pursue big smallmouth bass, salmon and steelhead without even using a boat. For the boaters, there are plenty of launches to help get you on the water quickly. The salmon run is very popular on this river in the fall. Steelhead are available in the summer as well as the late fall through winter. Smallmouth bass fishing is best from May through September.
