Primary Species of Fish

Lake Superior gets most of the attention for quality fish being caught in this county.  On the big lake, walleye, salmon and trout are popular for anglers that have big enough boats to get out on the water.  The St. Louis River is super popular as a walleye destination that has a lot of big fish in it, especially in the spring and fall.  Throughout the county, there are some nice smaller lakes that offer good fishing for largemouth bass as well.

Secondary Species of Fish

Northern pike are very common in this area, however, many of the lakes are home to lots of smaller pike.  If you’re looking for action though, you can definitely get some action with an occasional bigger fish by targeting pike.  Panfish are found throughout the lakes in the county.  This area isn’t a great muskie destination, but there are some lakes available with muskie in them.
