Primary Species of Fish
Walleye, Northern Pike, Muskie & Largemouth Bass
The walleye, pike, muskie and largemouth bass can keep plenty of anglers happy in this area. You have a lot of options. Some lakes offer good numbers of fish and there is some trophy fish potential here too.
Secondary Species of Fish
Smallmouth Bass, Crappie, Perch, Bluegill & Other Sunfish
Smallmouth bass can be caught in some of the area lakes, but it’s not a great smallmouth bass destination. Crappie, perch and bluegill can be found in good numbers on many of the Brainerd area lakes. Big crappie up to 13 inches, bluegill up to 10 inches and jumbo perch can be caught here, but you will have to sort through plenty of smaller fish to find the bigger ones. On some of the smaller lakes, the trophy potential isn’t as good and on the bigger lakes, it can take some time to find the schools of bigger panfish, especially during the summer and fall when they are in deeper water.
