The warmer spring weather brings better fishing into the Venice, Louisiana area. Inshore, anglers will do well on the nicer days for sea trout, flounder, redfish, black drum and sheepshead. Offshore, the charter boats start seeing more fish showing up in April and it gets better through the rest of the spring. Anglers will catch blue marlin, white marlin, wahoo, blackfin tuna, yellowfin tuna, snapper, grouper, cobia, king mackerel and more.

In the summer, the fishing is really good. It can get hot down here, but so can the fishing. Inshore, the redfish fishing is outstanding and as the summer comes to an end, you will start to see more big redfish show up inshore. On the reefs, anglers catch snapper, grouper, amberjack and others. Most charters will run out to the oil rigs and they will fish for so many different species of fish. The pelagic species of fish such as tuna, mahi mahi, wahoo, marlin and other billfish are caught here all summer.

In the fall, pretty much everything is on the table from the shallow marshes to the deep water oil rigs. However, the fishing for redfish is what really stands out here in the fall. In October, tons of big bull redfish will move into the inshore waters, so anglers can catch good numbers with some absolute giants mixed in.

In the winter, strong winds make the offshore runs more difficult so you have to pick and choose your days. On the calmer days, the fishing is still great here offshore. Inshore, many people come down to target redfish and sea trout in the shallows. The weather is a little colder this time of year, but it’s still Venice, Louisiana where the fishing is arguably the best in the country.
