Fishing LOTW South Shore MN in the Spring

Month Avg. Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
March 36° / 14°
April 50° / 28°
May 63° / 41°

The spring provides good fishing for walleye, perch and pike.  Tons of walleye move into the Rainy River, so most of the anglers will be fishing the early season walleye fishery there.  Once the official walleye opener kicks off, the walleye have left the river and are now back in the big lake.  You can catch them shallower during this time of year, so for the anglers who don’t want to run miles offshore, this is a good time to visit.

Fishing LOTW South Shore MN in the Summer

Month Avg. Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
June 73° / 52°
July 79° / 56°
August 76° / 54°

When summer patterns set in, the better fishing will be offshore.  Go out and fish the offshore structure by trolling, drifting or anchoring.  The large pieces of structure can hold large schools of fish.  Most anglers fish for walleye, but end up catching some pike and perch too.

Fishing LOTW South Shore MN in the Fall

Month Avg. Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
September 67° / 46°
October 52° / 34°
November 35° / 20°

In the fall, walleye push back into the Rainy River as they follow the shiner migration.  As they move back in, anglers usually fish closer to the river for better success.  The mouth of the river can provide some unbelievable fishing if you time it right.  As far as the rest of the south shore, you can still find fish offshore, but there will be some fish closer to shore than the summer, so you don’t always have to make the real long boat rides out to find fish.
