This rig works when you’re fishing for shark that are suspended and there isn’t much current. Add a good sized split shot weight to help your bait get down faster than it would on a weightless rig. In this situation, you don’t need the real heavy weight to get down to the bottom because you’re targeting sharks higher up in the water column.
When you chum for shark from a boat and you see the sharks coming up to your boat, a weightless rig with some cut bait is a great way to catch them. You won’t need to get your bait down very deep because the sharks are going to be near the surface.
