The Spider Chain of Lakes is located 14 miles northeast of Hayward, Wisconsin in Sawyer County. This chain consists of 5 interconnected lakes and are known for being a good fishery for walleye, muskie, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and panfish. Northern pike are located throughout the chain as well, however, they are not listed in these lakes on the DNR website. The lakes fish a little different with the clearer water in Clear Lake and Spider Lake and murky water in Big Spider Lake, Fawn Lake and North Lake.
Big Spider Lake
Spider Lake is a large lake with a maximum depth of 64 feet. This lake has lots of good fishing spots and anglers target a variety of fish here. According to the DNR, muskie are abundant in this lake. Largemouth bass and walleye are common in the lake. Smallmouth bass and panfish are listed as present. Pike are here too if you want to target them.
Clear Lake
Clear Lake covers 250 acres. The water is moderately clear. With a couple islands on this lake, you have some offshore structure to fish that will congregate plenty of fish in the summer and fall months. Just like its name, Clear Lake has clearer water with good depth. Depending on what you are fishing for, you may have to be a lot more stealthy with your tackle compared to the murkier lakes in this chain.
Fawn Lake
Fawn Lake is small, covering only 28 acres. This lake has a maximum depth of 35 feet. While this lake has plenty of depth to hold some fish throughout the open water fishing season, it offers better fishing early in the year as fish move into the bays to spawn. The murky water warms quicker, which helps attract more fish early in the year. Muskie, largemouth bass, walleye and panfish are common in this lake. Smallmouth bass and pike are here too.
Little Spider Lake
Little Spider Lake has clear water than Big Spider Lake. Little Spider is a good-sized lake with lots of good options for anglers. Fish for muskie, bass, walleye, pike or panfish.
North Lake
North Lake covers 132 acres and has a maximum depth of 30 feet. The murky water warms quicker, which helps attract more fish early in the year. Muskie, largemouth bass, walleye, pike and panfish are common in this lake. Smallmouth bass are here too.
