In pools on rivers and streams, a weightless rig can be very effective. It’s not as effective in ponds and lakes because it’s harder to get your bait out there far enough where trout are feeding, however, in some ponds, the trout will feed right along the shoreline and then it can be awesome. On many rivers and streams, you can drop a weightless rigged nightcrawler, minnow, corn or other natural bait into a pool with some slack water. The slow free fall of your bait will get a lot of bites from rainbow trout.
