Salmon River
The Salmon River in New York is a famous river known for its world class salmon and steelhead fishing. The Salmon River is only 17 miles long, but so many salmon move into this river from Lake Ontario to spawn. This river is stocked heavily with Chinook Salmon and Steelhead to go along with Coho and Atlantic Salmon as well. It is one of the most popular salmon fishing rivers on the east coast, so don’t plan on having this river all to yourself. Some of the more popular spots will have plenty of anglers fishing right along with you. It is known for good numbers of fish and some very big fish though, so the people that come here to fish are willing to deal with the crowds for a chance at a huge salmon or steelhead.
Lake Ontario
The Pulaski, New York area of Lake Ontario is a very popular fishing destination. There are plenty of fishing charters that operate in this part of the lake and the fishing can be very good for a variety of trout and salmon. Most of the fishing charters will be targeting steelhead, brown trout, lake trout and salmon. This part of the lake is famous for its excellent King Salmon and steelhead fishing due to the huge stocking program that exists in the Salmon River. Huge numbers of fish will move back from the lake into the river and there are plenty of boaters that will target these fish near the mouth of the river before the spawning runs are at their peak.
