Tuna, especially blackfin tuna, are a prized offshore species in the Gulf waters off Cape San Blas and Port St. Joe. These powerful, fast-swimming fish are typically found far offshore, where they feed near deep water structures and temperature breaks. They’re known for blistering runs and excellent table fare.

Tuna can be targeted:

Near offshore oil rigs and deepwater structure

Along current edges and temperature breaks

While trolling or chunking in 100+ feet of water

Near bait schools and floating debris

Bait: Chunked bonito or sardines; live bait near rigs

Leaders: 40–60 lb fluorocarbon
