Grouper are highly prized for their fighting power and excellent taste. In the waters off Cape San Blas and Port St. Joe, several grouper species are targeted including gag grouper, red grouper, and scamp. Most grouper fishing takes place offshore, but some inshore structure may hold smaller grouper.


Where to Catch Grouper


Grouper are typically found:

On offshore reefs, ledges, and wrecks

Over hard-bottom areas with bait activity

Near artificial reefs and rock piles

Occasionally in deeper passes and channels inshore
