Polk County is definitely not smallmouth bass country, but there are some here if you want to go after them. The Indianhead Flowage is the place to go if you’re looking for numbers with some quality fish. However, Pipe Lake has a fishable population of smallmouth bass as well and some people do pretty well there too.
Indianhead Flowage
Indianhead Flowage is a 413 acre lake located in Polk County. It has a maximum depth of 57 feet. Fish include smallmouth bass, walleye, largemouth bass, northern pike and panfish. According to the DNR, smallmouth bass and walleye are considered common in the lake while the other species of fish are listed as present.
Pipe Lake
Pipe Lake is a 293 acre lake located in Polk County. It has a maximum depth of 68 feet. Fish include smallmouth bass, walleye, northern pike, largemouth bass and panfish. According to the DNR, smallmouth bass, walleye, panfish and northern pike are considered common in the lake while largemouth bass are listed as present.
