It is so far north that the spring is still very cold. A warm front could pass through on your trip and it may feel quite warm, but for the most part, plan on a lot of colder weather if you come here early in the year. The ice out dates will be later as well, so plan your trip accordingly. When the walleye opener arrives though, the fishing can be very good. If you dress for the weather, you can experience some unbelievable early season fishing as anglers catch hundreds of walleye and pike in very shallow water.

The summer provides spring-like weather, which makes fishing very comfortable for anglers. Because water temperatures never really warm up like you would see in the U.S., you can find some walleye and pike fairly shallow all summer long. As July rolls around, walleye and pike will be transition and be found in their typical summer patterns. Offshore structures, deeper points and deeper shorelines will hold larger schools of fish, but don’t rule out the shallower water completely though because some fish will be there too. You can catch good numbers of pike and walleye all summer long.
