Murky Water

There are plenty of good perch fisheries with murky water, but there are some there are some things that you need to know to help you catch more fish in murky water.

Fish Shallower

In darker waters, perch can be found much shallower than in clear water.  In the spring, anglers can find perch in just a few feet of water at times, so a good bite might be going on in 3 to 6 feet of water compared to clear water where the fish may be 6 to 12 feet deep.  In the summer and fall, perch will still go deep in murky water lakes, but you usually don’t have to go as deep as you would in clear water.

Brighten Your Baits Up

Help make it easier for perch to see your baits.  Instead of using a plain single hook, use colored hooks or use jigheads and hair jigs with your favorite live baits.  Bright colors work great such as green, orange, pink and yellow.

Just Shake It

When your bait is out there, just shake it repeatedly.  This helps perch find your bait easier in murky water and the extra action will also get you more bites.
