Saltwater catfish, including gafftopsail and hardhead catfish, are common inshore catches around Pensacola. While not typically targeted, they’re often caught when bottom fishing with bait. Gafftopsail catfish are more desirable due to their stronger fight and less muddy flavor.

In bays, estuaries, and near river mouths

Along sandy beaches and in the surf zone

They are frequently caught while targeting other bottom fish with natural bait.
