100-Fathom Hot Spot
The 100-Fathom Curve refers to the area along the Gulf of Mexico’s coastline where the water drops off super quick, reaching 600 foot depths. Pensacola is pretty close to this deeper water. The best deep waters spots out of Pensacola are the Nipple out to the Spur and along the 100-Fathom Curve line from running from east to west. The Nipple is about 38 miles or 33 nautical miles from the Pensacola Pass. This is where the water drops down to 600 feet, but then it gets much deeper with depths of 1,800 feet or more around the Spur. From bottom fish to the pelagic species that are known for swimming along the Gulf Stream currents, anglers have so many options here such as marlin, tuna, wahoo, mahi mahi and more.
