There are numerous types of sea bass that thrive in the ocean, however, black sea bass are some of the most popular sea bass to catch. They can be found inshore during the summer and offshore throughout the winter.
Sea bass inhabit irregular hard-bottom areas, such as wrecks or reefs. They are found from on the east coast from Massachusetts to Cape Canaveral, Florida. They are found inshore and nearshore. Juvenile fish are common in the high-salinity areas of the estuaries during the summer.
Black Sea Bass Fishing in the Orange Beach / Gulf Shores, AL Area
This area is home to some very good bottom fishing, however, the 100 fathom line is around 36 miles out from shore. There are nearshore and offshore wrecks closer than that, so you can find some black sea bass a lot closer to shore, but the better bottom fishing spots are out in the 600 foot depths and deeper. Anglers usually catch sea bass while targeting snapper and grouper around the nearshore and offshore wrecks.
Sea Bass Fishing Tips
Sea bass are easy to catch. Anglers use small baits such as cut bait, shrimp, squid, jigs and soft plastics. Fish near the bottom around reefs, wrecks and jetties and you should be able to find some fish.
