The Oconto River flows into Green Bay and it offers some very good fishing opportunities in Oconto County, Wisconsin. Walleye get the most attention here, but smallmouth bass, northern pike, muskie and perch are all possible on the river.
Near the River Mouth
There is a nice marina and boat launch near the river mouth. This is a popular port on Green Bay, so plan on seeing plenty of anglers launching out of here. There is also a very long causeway here that is popular for shore anglers. It is called the Splinter Causeway and anglers usually catch perch and sheepshead, but some walleye are caught here too, especially in the spring and fall.
Stiles Dam
If you are coming up the Oconto River from the bay of Green Bay, Stiles Dam will be the first dam that you will meet. The river area from the Stiles Dam on down will get a lot of fishing pressure from spring through fall. While you may find an occasional salmon, steelhead or brown trout in this part of the river, this area provides a good fishery for walleye, smallmouth bass and a variety of panfish. During the spring and fall runs, anglers report some very good catches from the dam all the way out to the bay.
