Wahoo are fast and powerful predators that roam the deep blue waters offshore of Dunedin, Palm Harbor, and Tarpon Springs. Known for blistering runs and razor-sharp teeth, they are usually targeted far offshore by anglers trolling high-speed lures along drop-offs and temperature breaks.


Where to Catch Wahoo


Wahoo are typically caught:

Offshore in 100+ feet of water

Along ledges, drop-offs, and deep rips

Near weed lines or floating debris

While trolling at high speeds over structure

Tackle & Tips


Lures: High-speed trolling lures like Yo-Zuri Bonitas or rigged ballyhoo with skirts

Bait: Rigged ballyhoo, bonito strips, or artificial trolling baits

Leaders: Wire or heavy mono (80–130 lb) to prevent bite-offs

Technique: Troll fast (10–15 knots) along offshore breaks and ledges
