Tarpon, also known as the Silver King, are among the most thrilling gamefish in the Dunedin, Palm Harbor, and Tarpon Springs area. These acrobatic fish migrate through the region seasonally and are often seen rolling near beaches, passes, and inshore bays during warm months.


Where to Catch Tarpon


Tarpon are typically found in:

Beaches and passes during their migration

Back bays and river mouths in spring and fall

Around bridges and deep channels

Rolling on calm mornings near structure or bait

Tackle & Tips


Lures: Soft swimbaits, DOA Baitbusters, or large plugs

Bait: Live crabs, threadfin herring, or mullet

Leaders: 60–80 lb fluorocarbon shock leader

Technique: Drift live bait in passes or cast to rolling fish at first light
