Black sea bass are smaller reef fish found offshore near Dunedin, Palm Harbor, and Tarpon Springs. Though more prevalent further north, these fish do appear near Gulf-side reefs and artificial structures. They’re prized for their flaky white meat and often caught while targeting other bottom species.


Where to Catch Black Sea Bass


In this region, black sea bass are typically found around:

Offshore artificial reefs

Rock piles and ledges 15–30 miles out

Mixed hard bottom and debris fields

Deeper wrecks near bait schools

Lures: Small metal jigs and bouncing bucktails
