Grouper are powerful bottom-dwellers commonly targeted in offshore waters near Dunedin, Palm Harbor, and Tarpon Springs. Gag and red grouper are most prevalent, especially around ledges, rocky bottom, and artificial reefs. They’re prized for their fight and flaky fillets.


Where to Catch Grouper


In this region, grouper are typically found around:

Hard-bottom areas and ledges offshore

Wrecks and reef structures 10–40 miles out

Occasionally nearshore in deeper shipping channels

Natural limestone breaks in 60–120 feet of water
