Tuna Fishing North of Tampa Bay Coastal
Tuna fishing is primarily an offshore pursuit in the waters beyond Dunedin, Palm Harbor, and Tarpon Springs. Blackfin tuna are the most commonly caught species in this region, especially along offshore rips and deepwater wrecks. While not as common as other pelagic species, they offer incredible speed and strength when encountered.
Where to Catch Tuna
Tuna are typically found:
Well offshore in bluewater, 40+ miles out
Along temperature breaks, weed lines, and rips
Near offshore wrecks and floating debris
Mixed in with dolphin, wahoo, or kingfish action
Best Time to Fish for Tuna
Season | Tuna Activity |
---|---|
Spring | Blackfin tuna become more active offshore |
