Cobia Fishing North of Tampa Bay Coastal


Cobia are hard-fighting gamefish often found nearshore and offshore in the waters off Dunedin, Palm Harbor, and Tarpon Springs. Known for their strength and unpredictable fight, cobia are typically found cruising around structure such as buoys, channel markers, and reefs. They are also occasionally spotted inshore following rays or large schools of bait.

Lures: Bucktail jigs, large swimbaits, surface plugs

Bait: Live pinfish, crabs, eels, or cut bait

Leaders: 40–60 lb fluorocarbon for abrasion resistance

Technique: Cast to visible fish or drift bait near structure; be ready for multiple runs
