The Nestor falls area is home to some excellent walleye fishing. Anglers usually have no problem catching good numbers of walleye on this part of the lake and big fish are caught here too. If you take a look at the map, you’ll see that Nestor Falls is a decent boat ride from the main lake. In the spring and fall, you can usually catch a lot of walleye without having to make long boat rides, but in the summer, anglers do a lot better in Sabaskong Bay to the west and up north in Whitefish Bay.
Nestor Falls
The falls right in town are popular among anglers all season long, however, the fishing is usually better here in the spring and fall. Walleye will move into the current area to find bait fish and spawn in the spring. In the fall, these fish will be here as they follow schools of bait fish. Don’t plan on having this area all to yourself though, as many people will fish this spot.
Sabaskong Bay
West of Nestor Falls is Sabaskong Bay. It holds walleye from spring through fall. Some anglers fish closer to Nestor Falls in the spring and fall for walleye, but too many fish move out towards the main lake in the summer so anglers will follow the fish out to the bay. Sabaskong Bay gives anglers everything they need to target walleye. You have rocks, weeds, bays, points, islands, reefs and open water for walleye to roam.
Whitefish Bay
Whitefish Bay is productive for walleye anglers in the summer and fall. The deep, clear waters are home to some very big walleye, but they can be challenging to catch for some anglers. Anglers that do better here will usually use light line and it will be fluorocarbon line or at the very least, fluorocarbon leaders. Fishing during low light conditions will definitely help too. Walleye can be found deeper here compared to the other parts of the lake with murkier water.
Fishing the Drop-offs
There are so many spots where there are good drop-offs along the shorelines off the islands and off the reefs. Fish these spots in the summer and fall and you’ll find a lot of walleye.
Fishing the Points
There are so many points to fish whether you are fishing close to the town of Nestor Falls or farther out in Sabaskong Bay. Walleye will use these points from spring through fall. Fish the wind blown points with deep water nearby and you’ll have a lot more success during the summer and fall months.
Fishing the Islands
With so many islands to fish near Nestor Falls and farther away in Sabaskong Bay, you have so many awesome spots to fish for walleye and they make this part of the lake a lot more calm than other parts of the lake when the wind blows. You will still get some rough water here, but the islands help so much. Fish the wind blown, rocky shorelines and you’ll find walleye from spring through fall. In the summer and fall, the deeper drop-offs will usually hold a lot more walleye.
Fishing the Reefs
You have a good amount of offshore structure to fish in this area. Anglers target walleye on the reefs in the summer and fall.
Fishing the Rocks
The rocks hold a lot of walleye throughout the fishing season and this area has tons of rocks. Plan on fishing rocky shorelines early in the year and the deeper water near the rocky points, islands and reefs in the summer and fall.
Fishing the Weeds
There are plenty of weeds in this part of the lake too. Anglers find tons of northern pike around the weeds, but you will find walleye relating to some of these spots too. Fish the new green weeds early in the year and the deeper weed edges in the summer and fall.
