Flounder are flatfish that live on the bottom and ambush prey. In Miami, southern flounder and Gulf flounder are caught inshore, particularly around sandy and muddy bottom near structure. They are known for their delicious fillets and are best targeted with bait dragged slowly across the bottom.

Flounder are often found:

Around sandy flats and grass edges

Near bridge pilings and dock structure

Along channels, drop-offs, and jetties

Inshore passes and tidal creek mouths
