Action: Pompano, Spanish mackerel, whiting, and sheepshead are active along the beaches and jetties. Cobia migrate close to shore in April.

Slow: Early March can be inconsistent with lingering cold fronts.

Tips: Sand fleas for pompano, shrimp or fiddler crabs for sheepshead, Gotcha plugs for mackerel, and sight-casting cobia with jigs from shore or jetties.

Action: Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, bluefish, and jack crevalle roam the beaches. Sharks are common at night in the surf.

Slow: Midday heat can slow the bite; early mornings and evenings are best.

Tips: Spoons for mackerel, live bait rigs for kings, cut bait for sharks after dark, and popping corks for bluefish.
