Tarpon

Tarpon Fishing in Mexico Beach, Florida

Tarpon, known as the “silver king,” are powerful gamefish that migrate along the Gulf Coast. Though not as abundant in Mexico Beach as in southern Florida, tarpon can be found in the summer months near inlets, along the beaches, and in nearby bay systems. Their acrobatics and brute strength make them one of the most thrilling fish to catch in saltwater.

Where to Catch Tarpon

In the Mexico Beach area, tarpon may appear:

Just off the beaches in clear, calm conditions

Near the mouths of St. Joseph Bay and other estuaries

In backwater bays and channels during migration

Use live bait and sight-casting techniques during calm mornings.
