Black sea bass are a tasty reef species found on hard bottom and wrecks offshore of Mexico Beach. Though generally smaller than other reef fish, they are aggressive feeders and often caught while bottom fishing for snapper or grouper. They are prized for their excellent meat and are often targeted when plentiful.


Where to Catch Black Sea Bass


In the Mexico Beach area, sea bass are caught:

On nearshore and offshore reefs

Around ledges and rocky bottom structure

Along wrecks or reef sites within 10–30 miles

Best caught while bottom fishing with bait or jigs near the bottom.
