Mackerel provide fast-paced action throughout the Mexico Beach area, especially during seasonal baitfish migrations. Spanish mackerel are commonly caught nearshore and from piers, while king mackerel are found farther offshore. Both species are known for their speed and explosive strikes on light tackle or trolling gear.

In the Mexico Beach area, mackerel are found:

Spanish: Near piers, jetties, and along the beaches

Kings: Offshore reefs, wrecks, and over bait pods

Trolling or casting spoons and flashy jigs is very effective when schools are present.
