Tuna are highly prized pelagic fish known for their strength, speed, and excellent eating quality. In the Gulf waters off Mexico Beach, blackfin tuna are the most common species and can be found offshore, especially near deep-water structures or floating debris. While yellowfin tuna are more of a deep Gulf target, adventurous anglers sometimes pursue them on extended trips.


Where to Catch Tuna


In the Mexico Beach area, tuna are caught:

Offshore in 100+ feet of water, near weed lines and temperature breaks

Near oil rigs and deepwater floating structures

Under diving birds following bait schools

Trolling or chunking with bait is common for success offshore.
