Spotted sea trout (speckled trout) are one of the most popular inshore fish around Mexico Beach. These aggressive feeders strike lures and live bait readily, making them a go-to species for anglers of all skill levels. They’re typically found in the bays, flats, and around structure where baitfish are present.


Where to Catch Sea Trout


In the Mexico Beach area, sea trout are found:

Over grass flats in St. Joseph Bay

Near sandbars, drop-offs, and tidal creek mouths

Along deep channels and oyster edges

Live shrimp under a popping cork or soft plastics are extremely effective.
