Fishing Lake Okeechobee in the Spring

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
March 80° / 59°
April 84° / 62°
May 88° / 67°

In the spring, the fishing is very good on Lake Okeechobee.  Because this lake is farther south than many of the popular central Florida bass fishing lakes, the spawn finishes up here a little earlier here.  Depending on the year, most of the bass will spawn through January and February, but you may see some still spawning in March as well.  For the most part though, the spring months here fish more similar to summer bass fishing, especially once you get into April and May.

Fishing Lake Okeechobee in the Summer

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
June 90° / 71°
July 92° / 72°
August 91° / 72°

In the summer, it gets so hot down here and you will have to deal with a lot of storms that pop up too.  These storms usually only last an hour or two, so they don’t wipe out your entire day of fishing, but you do have to pay attention to the radar much more in the summer than the other months here.  The feeding windows are much smaller in the summer as well.  Early in the morning and the evening definitely provide better fishing.  Lake Okeechobee is also known for having some pretty bad algae blooms in the hot summer months as well.

Fishing Lake Okeechobee in the Fall

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
September 90° / 72°
October 86° / 68°
November 80° / 62°

The fall still fishes a lot like summer as water temperatures really don’t come down much until you get into November.  The end of fall usually will provide much better fishing with the bass being a little more active for longer throughout the day.  Anglers usually find more schooling bass offshore in the fall.

Fishing Lake Okeechobee in the Winter

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
December 76° / 57°
January 74° / 54°
February 76° / 55°

The winter is prime time largemouth bass fishing down here.  Anglers do well with good numbers of bass and some very big bass as well.  As you get into the months of January and February, you can start seeing a lot of bass move up onto the beds as well.  February is usually the best month for catching big largemouth bass, so plan your trips accordingly.  The winter is also a good time for panfish such as bluegill, shell cracker, other sunfish and crappie.
