The bass fishing is excellent on Lake Okeechobee. This lake gives anglers the opportunity to catch good numbers of largemouth bass with some very big bass mixed in.
Catch a Trophy Bass
Bass over 5 pounds are very common here with 8 to 10 pounders caught regularly. Bass over 10 pounds are less common, but still very possible here on any given day. Most anglers will use live shiners to target huge largemouth bass, but plenty of anglers catch big bass on artificial lures too.
Tons of Vegetation for Flipping
Lake Okeechobee has tons of vegetation and many of these areas will offer some excellent opportunities for flipping. By flipping around the heavy vegetation with jigs and a variety of soft plastic baits, you can catch good numbers of bass with some very big fish as well. Just make sure you use heavy enough gear to pull huge bass out of these heavily vegetated areas.
Live Shiners Work Great
By fishing with large wild shiners, your chances of catching a big bass goes up tremendously and some anglers will have the opportunity to catch a lot of bass in the 6 to 10 pound range if they hit it right. Florida strain largemouth bass are more difficult to catch with artificial lures, so most anglers will fish with live shiners while down here on a trip.
