The crappie fishery is very good on Lake Fork. Many anglers target them here and this lake is known for having a good deep water bite in the summer and winter months, so you don’t just have to fish the spring and fall to catch crappie here.
Fish the Spawn
In the spring, crappie have a lot of water to choose from because there is so much wood in this reservoir. It’s not as simple as just finding the wood in the shallows because the wood is everywhere. Once they move in to spawn though, the fishing can be very good. You just may have to put in some time to find the better areas for the shallow water bite. Fish the creeks and you should be able to find some fish if you put in the time since there are huge numbers of crappie in the lake.
Deep Water Crappie Fishing
The deep water structure holds big schools of crappie and if you can find them, you can catch some really nice fish. Many anglers will use jigs, a double jig setup or jigging spoons to target them in deeper water. You are definitely going to need to use your electronics to help find these schools of crappie in deeper water since there is a lot of deep water on the lake. From summer through winter, the deep water crappie bite is fairly consistent.
Fish the Bridges
There are some long bridges on Lake Fork and they hold a variety of fish species. Crappie are often found schooled up in big numbers around the bridge pilings. Anchor up over some of these schools and you can put good numbers of crappie in the boat.
