Catch Lots of Pike While Lac Seul is known for walleye, significant pike fishing is also available. To consistently good numbers of pike, break out the fast action pike lures and hit the bays, points and rocky shorelines. Anglers do report 30 to 50 fish days, however, most anglers come here to fish for walleye, not pike. Murky Water Pike Fishing Lac Seul’s murky water allows for heavy tackle without spooking pike. Wire leaders work well, but monofilament offers a more natural presentation; fluorocarbon isn’t necessary. Brighter lures will usually help you get more bites in the murky water. Fish the Current There are many areas on Lac Seul that have some current. The current will usually hold some walleye and plenty of pike will be here feeding on them as well. Fish the Points There are too many points here for you to fish them all, so focus on the ones that have access to deeper water nearby. The wind blown points are usually more productive as well. Walleye will move into those wind blown points with lots of rock and the pike will be there too most of the time. Fish the Rocks Lac Seul is full of rocks, so plan on fishing plenty of rocks on a trip to Lac Seul. You can target the vegetation in the bays, but you will find so much more rock that you will be making long boat runs if you just want to fish weeds. Many anglers will catch all of their pike on a trip to Lac Seul without ever fishing any vegetation at all. |
Catch Big Northern Pike Lac Seul holds trophy northern pike. Anglers do target them with heavy tackle and large lures from spring through fall. Most anglers will find the big pike in the bays during the spring and fall and on offshore structure in the summer. Pike above 40 inches are possible. Fish the Bays There are many bays throughout Lac Seul. Earlier in the year, you will have much better success by fishing in the bays. However, some bays here are so big that they will fish more like smaller lakes. Don’t rule the big bays out during the summer and fall because there will be plenty of fish in those bays too. You won’t find a ton of weeds throughout the lake, so when you do, fish the deeper weed lines and you’ll find some pike. Fish the Islands There are lots of islands to fish that you easily can just focus on this pattern on your trip and do quite well. In the spring and early summer, the bays will usually be better spots to fish for pike, but once summer patterns set in, you can target pike along the rocky shorelines of these islands and catch pike through the summer and fall. Fish the Reefs If you want to target the reefs, this is a great summer and fall pattern for northern pike. Walleye roam these reefs in large numbers all summer and fall. Big pike can usually be found cruising these offshore structures too. Fish the Weeds You can target the vegetation in the bays, but you will find so much more rock that you will be making long boat runs if you just want to fish weeds. Many anglers will catch all of their pike on a trip to Lac Seul without ever fishing any vegetation at all, so think about that before you start running all over the lake to find vegetation. However, the parts of the lake that do hold some vegetation will be great spots to fish for pike. Just know that there isn’t a lot of vegetation in the lake compared to the rocks. |
