Redfish
Redfish are found primarily inshore. They can be found near bridges, piers, jetties, near docks, in the surf, in bays and in tidal creeks. Redfish will be found inshore year-round, which is one of the reasons why they are so popular among anglers.
Redfish Fishing in the Islamorada, Florida Area
Redfish are not common in the lower Keys, so most anglers that want to fish for redfish in this area will end up fishing the upper Keys. Key Largo is home to some amazing backcountry fishing for a variety of fish. You will find plenty of redfish here too along the mangrove shorelines or on the grass flats.
Redfish Fishing Tips
Anglers target redfish with a variety of artificial lures, live baits and natural baits. While you have so many options for targeting redfish, most anglers will keep it simple and use live shrimp, dead shrimp or lures that mimic a shrimp. You can target the smaller reds with medium heavy rods and reels, but if you are going after bigger redfish, you’re going to want to go with medium heavy to heavy action gear to help land some of these huge fish.
