Kentucky Lake has some outstanding crappie Fishing. Hit it right on this lake and you can fill your limit in a hurry.
Fish the Spawn
The spring is the most popular time to target crappie here as thousands of fish move into the shallows throughout the lake. Find the shallow water wood in the creek arms and you will most likely find some crappie. Fish in the 12 to 15 inch range are not uncommon here with some bigger fish caught too.
Fish the Creeks
Kentucky Lake has lots of creek arms that provide some excellent fishing for largemouth bass, crappie and other species will be there too. In the spring, huge numbers of crappie move out of the main lake and head into these creek arms. You are going to find crappie around brush piles in deeper water and shallow water throughout the creek arms. Crappie will also be found close to shore around the wood.
In the fall, some crappie will follow bait fish back into the creeks as water temperatures drop. There will also be plenty of nice crappie staying out on the main lake from summer through winter, so if you can’t find them in the creeks in the fall, head out onto the main lake instead.
Fish the Main Lake
The summer and fall are not as easy as most of the better fish will be found around offshore structure. However, if you hit 10 or more good brush piles in deeper water, you should still be able to catch plenty of crappie once they go deeper. The key is to have many good spots to move to until you find the schools of crappie. There are so many brush piles in this lake that it won’t take long for you to find some quality spots to fish if you have some good electronics.
Fish the Wood
There is so much wood on Kentucky Lake. Many anglers have been dropping their own brush piles and fish attractors for years. There is flooded timber all over the lake and plenty of wood along the shoreline as well. Fishing the wood will be the main pattern for most anglers during their entire fishing trip to Kentucky Lake. Bring some good electronics and you can easily find a bunch of spots to save on your GPS unit.
