Fishing Kabetogama Lake in the Spring
Month | Avg. Temps °F (Hi/Lo) |
March | 36° / 10° |
April | 50° / 24° |
May | 63° / 37° |
The spring provides some of the easiest fishing for most anglers, however, don’t be surprised by a cold front earlier in the year. Walleye, pike and smallmouth bass can all be found in shallower water, so break out the casting gear if you want. Fish the wind blown rocky shorelines and you should have success in the spring. Time it just right and you can do very well on all species of fish.
Fishing Kabetogama Lake in the Summer
Month | Avg. Temps °F (Hi/Lo) |
June | 72° / 48° |
July | 79° / 53° |
August | 76° / 50° |
In the summer, the fish are going to move to their deep water hangouts as the water temperatures warm up. Once the fish move deep, you’re going to have more success fishing the shorelines with quick drop-offs into deeper water and on the offshore structure such as reefs and islands. You can still find plenty of fish in the bays or off the points just outside the bays, but the anglers that usually do better are the ones who target the offshore structures.
Fishing Kabetogama Lake in the Fall
Month | Avg. Temps °F (Hi/Lo) |
September | 67° / 44° |
October | 53° / 32° |
November | 35° / 19° |
The fall can be a great time to fish. Lots of fish move back into the shallows, however, not like the spring time. Some fish stay deep, so you can find fish shallow and deep most days. The problem is deciding what pattern to pursue. As the weather cools down later in the fall, the offshore structures will usually be the best spots for walleye, smallmouth bass and northern pike.

Month | Avg. Temps °F (Hi/Lo) |

Kabetogama Lake does have some very good ice fishing opportunities here. The fish are willing to bite if you’re willing to get out there and fish. Some of the area businesses do have ice fishing shelters to rent which makes it a lot easier to plan a trip. Walleye, pike and perch will bite through the ice all winter.
