Islamorada is known more for its awesome offshore fishing, however, the inshore fishing is also very good. This area is home to some of the best bridge fishing in the Florida Keys and there are some good backcountry waters to fish as well.
Backcountry Fishing
The backcountry is the water that runs along the Florida Keys island chain. If you are staying around land along the Florida Keys, you are fishing backcountry waters. These waters provide good fishing for a variety of species on flats, near the mangroves, in canals, around channels and cuts.
Around Islamorada, Florida, you don’t have as much land or islands here to fish, but there is enough here to keep most anglers busy while fishing closer to your boat ramp. A variety of fish are caught in the backcountry waters such as barracuda, snapper, snook, sheepshead, permit and more.
Bridge Fishing
Islamorada is home to some awesome bridge fishing. You can easily just fish the bridges and have an awesome fishing vacation at Islamorada. There are so many species of fish that move in and out of this area during tidal changes. Anglers catch tarpon, sharks, jacks, snapper, grouper and more.
Flats Fishing
There are some awesome flats fishing opportunities in the area as well. Anglers usually target permit, barracuda and bonefish on the flats, but you can find a variety of other species here too.
Florida Bay
Anglers have a lot of water to fish in the waters of Florida Bay. If you take a look at the map, you will see that there are a lot of islands and keys to fish here, which gives anglers a lot of options for fishing mangroves, flats, cuts and channels for a variety of fish such as barracuda, snapper, snook, sheepshead, permit and more.
