Ladyfish are cousins of the much larger tarpon. They have a long, slender body and are fairly small, averaging 2 to 3 pounds. They are fun to catch for young anglers, but for most adult anglers, ladyfish are used for bait. Ladyfish can easily be caught with a small hook, weight and live shrimp, small bait fish or cut bait.
Ladyfish Fishing in the Islamorada, Florida Area
Ladyfish are common in the inshore waters around Islamorada. These fish are usually down here in good numbers from late fall through early spring. They can be fun to catch, but they also serve as one of the better baits to use for a variety of fish on the flats and offshore. Fish them as live baits or cut them up and use them as dead baits. Both techniques will put a lot of fish in the boat.
