Pickerel Lake is a mostly shallow lake, however, it does have some very deep water in it as well. The lake covers more than 1,000 acres, but once summer rolls around, the productive fishing water is a much smaller area as most of the better fish will move into the deeper water areas of the lake. Finding fish is not too hard here, but getting them to bite can be tricky since the better spots get fished pretty hard all summer long. Live bait can definitely help anglers boat a lot more fish.
Fish the Drop-offs
This lake has a lot of shallow water, but there are some nice drop-offs that are great spots to fish for just about everything that swims in this lake. Fish the drop-offs for pike, bass, walleye and panfish.
Fish the Deep Hole
The deep hole drops down to around 70 feet of water, which is super deep considering most of this lake is fairly shallow. There will be a lot of fish that will suspend out over this deeper water during the summer months. Using your electronics to find the schools of baitfish will be key to catching these deep water, suspended fish.
Fish the Deep Weed Edges
There are a lot of weeds on this lake and the deeper weed edges are great spots to fish for northern pike, bass, walleye, perch and bluegill. The deeper weed edge will hold fish from summer through early fall.
Navigate to Crooked Lake
There is a channel that connects Pickerel Lake to Crooked Lake. It is large enough for boats to travel through here easily.
