Mullet Lake

Mullett Lake is also a popular lake for fishing and boating.  It is a very deep lake that covers more than 17,000 acres.  Anglers target walleye, perch, smallmouth bass, northern pike and trout.

This Lake is Huge and Deep

Mullet Lake is a huge lake and it home to some very deep water.  Many anglers that are new to the lake can get overwhelmed since there is so much water that looks good, but it won’t all be productive fishing water.  Early in the season, when fish are in the shallows, it is much easier to find and catch a variety of fish species.  In the summer, it gets tougher for many anglers as many of the bigger schools of fish will be found in deeper water.  Bring a good map and/or good electronics so you can locate some of the better spots to fish quicker.  There are good numbers of fish that roam the deeper waters all summer long.

The Water is Very Clear

Mullet Lake has very good water clarity just like nearby Burt Lake.  This is also a beautiful lake, however, the clear water makes the fishing challenging at times, especially for people that are new to the lake.  Fishing during low light conditions and going with lighter line and fluorocarbon leaders can help you catch more fish.

Fish the Bays

There are several bays to fish throughout Mullet Lake.  Anglers will find a variety of fish in these bays as they move shallower to spawn.  Rock and sand will hold a lot of fish, especially smallmouth bass during the spring.

Fish the Points

There are some points on the lake and these pieces of structure will hold a variety of fish from spring through fall.  Anglers like to troll the drop-offs off these points for walleye and trout, but you’ll also find smallmouth bass, perch and pike here too.

Fish the Rocks

There is a lot of rock in Mullet Lake.  You are going to find plenty of smallmouth bass around the rocks, especially early in the year as smallmouth bass will be found in the shallow areas with sand and rocks.  In deeper water, the rocky humps will hold a lot of smallmouth bass with walleye, perch and pike mixed in too.

Fish the Weeds

There is not a lot of vegetation in Mullet lake, but there is some.  You can usually find some bass, pike and panfish around the weeds early in the season.  Deeper weeds will hold some fish too, however, most of the lake will not have any vegetation to fish.
