Houghton Lake
Houghton Lake is Michigan’s largest inland lake covering 22,000 acres. The lake offers good fishing for a variety of fish. Walleye and northern pike are the primary fish that anglers target here. Smallmouth bass and largemouth bass are in the lake and there are some quality fish of both species here. Panfish such as crappie, perch and bluegill are available too if you’re looking for some action. It is a big lake and it is known for its multi-species action. You may not run into many trophy-sized fish on this lake, but if you can find them around the weed lines, you can get a lot of action on Houghton Lake.
Higgins Lake
Higgins Lake is a gorgeous lake that covers 10,185 acres. This lake is primarily a trout lake and it is stocked with lake trout and rainbow trout. Anglers also catch smallmouth bass, northern pike, perch and rock bass on the lake too. This is a popular lake for open water fishing and ice fishing.
Lake St. Helen
Lake St. Helen covers 2,390 acres. It’s a popular lake for boating and fishing and it gives anglers another lake to fish in this area. This lake is much smaller than the other two lakes and it is more of a largemouth bass, northern pike and bluegill fishery. Smallmouth bass, walleye, crappie and rock bass are available too.
