Tarpon Fishing in the Fort Pierce, Florida Area
While the deep sea fishing gets most of the attention in Fort Pierce, the tarpon fishery is very good. The warm waters of Stuart, Florida provide excellent fishing opportunities for tarpon year round. Target them around the inlet, docks, mangroves and many other shore areas and you’ll find some plenty of resident fish. While you may be able to catch some tarpon year round, the migratory tarpon will be providing the best fishing opportunities in this area. The spring and summer is when there are huge migrations of tarpon moving through this area as the fish head north. In the spring and early summer, it is very common for anglers to be targeting tarpon along the beaches and inshore too. In the fall, anglers get another shot at these large migratory fish as they follow the mullet back down south.
Tarpon Fishing Tips
While many anglers may run into smaller tarpon and catch them without much effort, to consistently target bigger tarpon, you need to make sure you have the right tackle & equipment so things go your way. Tarpon will eat a variety of baits, so you have a lot of options when it comes to live & cut baits or artificial lures. The time of year is very important as well since tarpon will migrate a long way up and down both the Gulf & Atlantic Coasts each year.
