Slow Down

Florida bass can be difficult to get to chase a bait at times, so many anglers learn that by fishing slow, they can catch a lot more quality Florida bass.

Fish Soft Plastics Along Weed Edges

Florida bass love vegetation, so you can often find them along the weed edges.  There are many types of vegetation in Florida, so you can catch them around a variety of vegetation types.  However, hydrilla tends to be their preferred type of weed, so find some hydrilla and fish your soft plastics slowly along these weed edges.

Fish the Weed Pockets with Soft Plastics

On lakes with good hydrilla growth, you will often find areas with lots of pockets within the vegetation.  Florida bass love hiding in these areas, so if you can present your soft plastics down in these pockets, you can get a lot of bites.

Use the Drop Shot Rig with the Shaky Technique

With the drop shot rig, you can fish around a variety of cover as long as you keep your bait high enough above the drop shot weight.  If you are in a productive spot, it doesn’t matter that your weight is hung up in the weeds as long as your bait sits up above the weeds.  You may have to position your hook 2 to 3 feet above the weight for this technique to work in some situations.

Once you are setup and ready to go, cast your bait out in a productive spot and shake it like crazy.  Florida bass love to see a bait move, so you can make the bait move like crazy while staying in the same spot, you have a much better chance to get some of these Florida bass to eat your bait.
