In the spring, water temperatures are still pretty cold this far up north. The lake trout, pike and walleye will be feeding fairly shallow when the walleye opener arrives. The smaller lakes will warm up faster, so don’t rule out some of the smaller lakes for the early season action. On the bigger bodies of water, fish the numerous bays and you’ll find plenty of active fish. As the water warms towards the end of May, the smallmouth bass bite starts to pick up as well.
