Fishing the Rideau Lakes Area in the Spring

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
March 39° / 20°
April 53° / 34°
May 67° / 46°

The bass opener doesn’t start until the 3rd Saturday in June, which means there is so much awesome fishing available here and you can’t even fish for bass yet.  Anglers do target a variety of panfish, lake trout and northern pike in the area waters.  Since this isn’t an awesome area for walleye, the spring doesn’t get as much as attention as it should in the spring since the bass fishing is closed.

Fishing the Rideau Lakes Area in the Summer

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
June 74° / 55°
July 80° / 61°
August 78° / 59°

The bass opener gets this area rocking in the summer.  By closing the bass fishing season for as long as they do here, it helps improve the spawning for largemouth and smallmouth bass on all of these lakes.  With no fishing pressure all spring and the spawning over, there are thousands of bass ready to eat your baits.  The bass fishing is outstanding when the opener arrives and it stays good all summer long.

As summer patterns set in though, expect to find plenty of smallmouth bass on deeper, offshore structure and the quality panfish will be found deeper too.  Fish the deeper weed lines all summer for better quality largemouth bass and northern pike.

Fishing the Rideau Lakes Area in the Fall

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
September 69° / 51°
October 56° / 41°
November 44° / 31°

The fall provides some of the best fishing of the year and you finally start seeing a lot less boat traffic after Labor Day weekend passes.  The whole month of September will provide awesome bass fishing on so many lakes in the area.

Fishing the Rideau Lakes Area in the Winter (Ice Fishing)

Month Avg. Air Temps °F (Hi/Lo)
December 32° / 17°
January 26° / 8°
February 29° / 10°

In the winter, there are so many lakes to ice fish in this area.  Due to the low walleye numbers, anglers will ice fish mostly for panfish, northern pike and lake trout.
